Assembly lines are slaves to their subsequent processes
and they will perform no better than their least performing
individual process. The process machines making up the assembly line need to
be correctly specified (see Machine Concepts) and qualified assuring that they
meet the specifications. If either is not executed correctly, then the assembly line
will not meet its requirements. By Turnkey managing a combination of several
projects for the customer, ACE Manufacturing Services LLC can write the
Machine Specifications, manage the Manufacturing Equipment Procurement
Plans, and execute the Machine Qualifications at the vendor (MQ1) and after
installation in the plant (MQ2).
Machine Qualifications include:
1. Use of PPAP level product components for all runs
2. Executing a significant number of cycles to determine ppm and Cpk values
3. Timing a significant number of cycles to determine cycle time capability and
the down time periods or uptime value
4. Check a list of ergonomic and safety criteria for compliance
5. Check a list for standard Maintenance Manual requirements for compliance
6. Record compliance for sensors, indicator lights, alarms and error proofing
7. Compile setup parameters and monitor until stability is attained
8. Record measurements of the Product/Process characteristics and compute
to determine the ppm and Cpk values 9. A written report summarizing the
results of the Machine Qualifications and identifying any root causes for
initial MQ failures and steps taken or needed for resolution
